Tutorials & Instructions

June, 2007

On this page, you will find links to detailed instructions for using the LNV and for initial setup of your equipment. Several tutorials are available both in Flash format and as a PDF "handout." Choose whichever form you prefer. The Flash tutorials are a bit more detailed, but the PDF documents are a quicker read. Most of the Flash tutorials have an audio narration -- please use your speakers or headphones as you view them.

Note that the Flash tutuorials have a "control bar" that looks like this:

The control bar lets you pause, play, or jump to any portion of the tutorial.

All these tutorials are available on the LNV CD-ROM, available from bill.romond@state.vt.us.

Using the LNV

The biggest difference between the LNV and VILN, from a user's point of view, is the ability to quickly create and schedule your own multi-site conferences, and to include sites that are outside the LNV network.

Scheduling a Meeting with the iView Communications Manager (iCM) (FLASH only, with AUDIO) The iCM is easy to use and allows you to create and schedule your own videoconferences with 2 or more participants. This tutorial will get you started.

Using the iCM Address Book & Meeting Templates (FLASH only, with AUDIO)
The iCM is also the "address book" for the entire LNV system. Here is how you locate the videoconference "phone number" of other sites and manage your personal address book. You can also create meeting templates so that frequent meetings are a snap to arrange.

iCM User Quick Start Guide (PDF only)
This is a good guide to print out and keep handy for reference. (Note: there are some capabilities of the iCM that are not available on the LNV network, such as showing more than 4 participants on the screen at the same time)

Behind the Scenes

Knowing how the LNV works will help you to better use the system. This brief lesson shows you what happens when you make a video call or hold a conference.

Setting up the LNV hardware (Viewstation & Firewall)

The LNV system is very stable once you get your system set up; however, there are some challenges, depending upon the firewall you use and the type of broadband connection that you have. These instructions show you how to set up your hardware -- remember that you can call on Tech Support to help you with configuration, or to come out and do it for you.
